Do firefish like to hide a lot? I have a purple firefish in my qt and all it does is hang out at the bottom of my sponge filter. I rarely see it swimming around. Come feeding time it comes out right after the food hits the water and eats fine. Is it normal for these fish to hide all the time? This being my first fish, I am really worried about it.

They are relatively shy fish and will typically hang around their bolt hole. This is especially true when they are kept singly as they feel more secure when there is a school.

    Mine did the same thing.

Totally normal and very sad :( Such a beautiful fish! I have 1 Orange Firefish that I've had for almost 3 years. She hid all the time. So after my upgrade I decided to get her a buddy, in hopes of bringing her out more. Well it didn't :( But the new one was out all the time :) They became fast friends for about 6 months. Then BLAM! They started fighting so much that their top fins became stubs. They've since calmed down, fins are growing back and now they are both out all the time :) But they don't call them DART fish for nothing, blink and their gone~LOL

Thanks. Helps to get my mind at ease. Just have to wait it out another three weeks before I can add it to my DT.
