Hey there everyone! I have Two quick questions for you all. ;D

I purchased a Lawnmower/Algae/Jeweled/Sailfin/Horned/Jeweled Rockskipper Blenny (whichever name you prefer) the day before yesterday.
I made sure I picked our the most lively, well colored, seemingly disease free Blenny I could and I was pleased that he was sucking on a bit of algae in the tank at the LFS (which I thought to be a good sign) I spent about an hour trying to decide which one looked the healthiest.
I got him home and of course, after Aclimating him for 3hours, he hid. Normal.
Yesterday He also hid, poking his head out every so often looking around. When ever I came to the tank to get a good look at him, he popped right back into his hidey hole.
Today I have seen him skipping and swimming more, But I still have yet to see him eat any algae. I've got a good bit of green algae on my back glass and some nice tufts of GHA (The reason I got the Blenny in the first place). :confused:Is this normal?
I have GHA growing on my Zoa's and I'm scared its starting to kill it:cry:. I don't know what to do. I have tried placing snails and hermits in the GHA to eat it, but they pick and move on. What do I do?

I also have a lawnmower blenny- they can acclimate for a week or so before they decide it's safe to come out. If you still see him peeking, that's good. Just be patient, he'll eat. I enjoy mine, he's an interesting fish, love the eyebrows!

+1. The last algae blenny I had took about 3 days to come out. I have had fish wait two weeks lol. I wouldn't worry too much just yet

Your Zoas will be OK. They will mainly snack off the glass and rocks. Just be careful of this type of blenny. They are wonderful additions to a tank, but the tank needs to be big. Putting one in a 20g long will starve them out but quick. Mine starved in a 90g slowly over six months. My tank was either too clean or my blenny too finicky. Maybe a little of both. Not enough for it to eat and it would not accept prepared foods. So just be prepared. There may be a time when you will want to return him........

Ok thanks guys. I like him too, I think they have such character! I kinda figured that he just needed time.

Should I wait to see if he will eat the GHA off of my coral? Im just afraid it's going to spread and kill it.

i wouldn't expect very quick results with a blenny. they don't have the ripping power of some fish. it would just slowly tug at it allittle at a time.
i would tell you to buy/borrow a urchin or seahare and when it eats the algae take it back

Oh, I forgot to mention, I did upgrade (not a whole lot) To a 30gal because my 20 cracked during our move in Dec. Which, I know isn't much bigger, but I do plan to give him algae supplements if I have any doubts about him eating. I probably will find him a good home if the algae supps don't work.
    Thanks

short spined ones, tuxedo is one ive had in the past. it will probably clean your tank pretty fast(as long as its not growing fast) so if you don't take it back be ready to drop a algae wafer under it every now and then.
