    Hello all,
Well I just got my first two fish, one on 1/11 & one on 1/13. They are both doing great, except they are opening their mouths wide almost like they are yawning sometimes....but everyone is eating well etc. (So far offered high quality flake, Formula-two pellets, Hikari Brine-Shrimp (think they were to large) and frozen shrimp.....they both only really ate the pellets.

My question is mostly for the smaller one purchased 1/13. I have seen him on two occasions having white stringy feces. Last night his little belly looked very full, almost as if he was constipated. I did a few searches and found quite a few sites that suggested he might have internal parasites of some sort. Also suggesting to give him antibiotics. I made the mistake of placing them in my display tank first, but I am setting up the QT as we speak....

Should I give him antibiotics as a precaution, will they have ill effects if he does not have anything wrong? Should I place the one that seems fine in there as well? Is there anything else you guys suggest besides medication? Or other possible causes?

hmmm...well for my knowledge of marine parisites...you might have just feed them too much...or maybe he is just constipated...i have never tried this but hear it alot...that if u give them a boiled peeled pea they will help them out...sorta a stool softener? anti biotics...well its hard to say because there are so many things that could cause this...try feeding less and see i its stomach is still big

You know, I was thinking about giving him a pea last night...I read that a few places also. I guess Ill try that and keep an eye on them. I have been known to over analyze EVERYTHING:-/ ....and since this is my first real aquarium (not counting bettas etc.) and these are my first fish...even though I studied the in's and out's of marine aquariums until I was blue in the face, I don't really know what is normal and abnormal behavior in marine fish, (besides the stuff I read.)
The more I watch them, the more I think they are acting different, or like something isn't right.....but I think the majority of it is in my head....

I guess those are the things that come with experience...seeing for yourself what to look out for. Just don't want to brush off an issue like its no big deal, and then loose one of the little guys....

Anywho, thanks for your help...Ill keep everyone posted on his "status."

    Thanks, Stef

*Anyone with previous experience with these issues or incite on the situation is appreciated*

Dancin, try feeding them something else, they may be responding to the food that way. Brine might give them constipation. And yes, boiled pea's do work to relieve digestive problems. It is a very common practice in the freshwater hobby, especially with fancy goldfish that are real sensitive, digestive-wise.

There is a high possibility that what you are feeding them is making them bloated. Try something else that is softer on the digestive tract. I highly doubt it is parasites and is probably just due to the food you are feeding. I suggest you do a search on food that is digested easily by marine fish. How I see it is that you got a fish with special digestive needs, hehe. :tongue4:

I have one ocellaris and I feed him zooplankton, I highly recommend it! It is nutritious and yummy, and did I mention very small? I know zoo will do your clowns justice.
