I have had it for about a week now and it hasn't looked good since I put it in the tank. It shrivels up during the day. Could it be too much lighting or too much heat. The tank is 80 degrees which is a little warm

Do u think the heat is the problem? It's looking really bad:cry:

I have metal halides 150w and a 2 bulb 24" T5 fixture on a 29 gallon setup. I'm testing now, but my test kit only tests for ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate

Wow. My nitrates are literally off the charts. I recently bought a aqua c remora and stopped running carbon. Could running carbon help? Or is there a thread I could go to on lowering nitrates. I do a water change every 2 weeks

Carbon will definitely help, as will larger and/or more frequent water changes. If the problem persists, you might consider a bio-pellet reactor.

Are you using RO/DI water? How many and what size fish do you have? How much and how often do you feed? What do you have for cleanup crew?

Your lights should be fine and I don't think 80 degree temp is a problem,my tank has been around that temp all summer and my RBTA is thriving. It seems strange that your nitrates are so high and your xenia looks good in the pic, maybe you should retest. If they are really that high it could be the problem.

I tested it twice and both times it looked like Kool-Aid

would it be safe to do a big water change? Or is there be a better way?

It might be worth trying,I don't know a better way to reduce them quickly.Of course it will be a temp fix,you need to figure out the cause and address that long term, but water changes to reduce them might be the best way at this point.
