    it looks like it may be too late. from the pic i see the tentacles are already starting to sort of dissolve and by that time its as good as dead. remove it from the tank asap to avoid a crash.

    Before you do anything drastic I must ask how it looks when the lights are dimmed? If it still is extending and showing some life I would wait before you throw it out. Once the animal appears to be eating itself though (mouth inverted) then you should remove it immediately.

    just for the hay of it............test your water from the LFS to see if there are nitrates.
