I usually see some within 1 day. When there isn't foam after a day of running I have to adjust my water level (or lower the skimmer)

    What skimmer is it ?
How olds the tank ? What's the bio load in the tank ?

I don't see many air bubbles in the skimmer, is this a corallife 100 ? I see you have a pretty loose vortex, need to adjust the Venturi to tighten up the vortex a little, mine took about 5 or 6 days to pull skim mate, I have to be honest, thought it did a pretty decent job at the time.

If its brand new then it might take a bit to break in. I think most needle wheel impellers work best in 5-6" of water. Do a search on your skimmer to find correct depth needed to work. If its to deep then you can put your skimmer on a block or stand in order to be at a good depth. Most sumps are already setup for skimmers to work correctly.

adjusting water level can be done by raising the skimmer up if its in too deep of water. build a stand out of eggcrate for it to sit upon.

It's the Seaclone 100 HOB skimmer. I removed that tube that curls up and over the top of the tank and attached the pump to the inlet directly instead.

You might wanna look up modding a seaclone skimmer. They don't have a great reputation as working good out of the box. It's hard to get skim into the cup. But your pump might be to deep to work properly. People have drilled holes in the impeller, put on bigger pumps, cut down collection cup. Good luck just keep trying diff things til you find what works.

Hopefully your skimmer is running as it should by now.
If not, mine is very different, but judging by the picture, you could possibly raise the wall that the water goes over on the way out of the skimmer...

    fsu,

After you modded it, Where is the inlet for the air for the venturi and the venturi itself? The air gets in BEFORE the pumps impeller I hope.

Why did you do this mod?
