So after doing research, I think I know how to set up a sump.. I came up with this and think I have it right.. The only questions I have is how do I control the amount of flow the overflow??

How big are your bulkheads, your sump plan looks good.

I highly suggest a return in the center.

+1. Just flip, in the plan, where the baffle is for the return and fuge separation/wall.

You want your refugium to get non skimmed/non filtered water. Here's what I think would work well for you in the following config: SKIMMER | RETURN | FUGE (put the bubble trap between the return and skimmer and make it about 1" to 1.25" between each pannel.

As for the drain, you'll need to split it in 2 with a "Y" or a street Y (think that's the right name, but please check) then install a ball valve on the drain that goes to the fuge since you want slower flow there. and leave unrestricted flow where skimming takes place.

How big is your tank? How big is the tank you'll use for your sump/fuge? What diameter pipes?

    Good luck!

Honestly, I run my sump the same way as diagrammed due to plumbing costs. I don't see any real reason to ever flip it around. My cheato, gracillia, and other macro algaes grow well and keep my nitrates down. Could it do better with less flow, yes. However, it is not a must. Your design will work just fine.

Honestly, it all depends on what you want. I went bare bottom, with no live rock, and have my algae spinning in the fuge.

If you are able to, you can put the return in the middle and your fuge will work better. If you already have a sump built like that, don't worry about demolishing it.
