I called the local glass shop and they said they had plexi and lexann. Is that the same thing as acrylic like everyone uses to build sumps and overflow boxes and what not?

Lexan is pretty tough stuff, to get some that is thick enough to use for a tank you'll spend a pretty penny though. Standard strength plexiglass that most shops and hardware stores sell looks like crap and will scratch and haze very fast.

So laxann would work for a overflow box and custom doseing contaners? Though it's not the same and more costly?

Well I just stopped at the local harware store and they have acrylic buy it only 1/8 thick. Probly to thin for a overflow box you thank?

You can goto your local big-box hardware store like home-depot or lowes and check what they have. You're gonna want nothing less than 1/4". Personally I went with 3/8ths plexiglass for my applications, but in my case I was given the material for free so I couldnt really pass it up. Its strong stuff. I have a small sheet of lexan and it is surely a VERY SOLID acrylic material. but as some mentioned the price goes way up.

Im using 3/8ths black Plexiglas MC Acrylic sheets. Lexan was about $150 for a 4'x4' sheet iirc from my last home-depot run. The other stuff they had in the store was much cheaper and would work just as effectively. So shop around.

I went to a plastic store (TAP Plastics) and had the dude make me 6 acrylic baffles of 1/4" thick and it cost around 40 dollars or something. Very reasonable and took like 5 minutes.

Plexi is basically clear plastic, for an overflow it would work, but to be cautious when drilling it, it can crack very easily if you go to fast. Lexan is basically what bullet proof windows are made of and is very strong, but that comes at a price. But for a sheet to cut and seal together would not be extremely expensive.

You can buy acrylic sheets for a decent price its just hard to find. I have worked with all 3 and they each have pros and cons, but basically its between workability, finish and price.

Yeah, it was awesome!! They also had a bunch of scrap acrylic from larger projects they did, and those pieces were even cheaper, but I didn't feel like digging through them. I am glad I found them! I found them at the last minute, otherwise I was planning on going to Home depot, and that place really annoys me lol
