could the increase in salinity be from evaporation? are you topping off with fresh or salt water?

Skimate is indeed saltwater, I have tested it plenty of times, each time ended up with almost the exact same salinity as the tank, maybe a little bit less. And btw if it smells that bad I would not recommend drinking it, it is poop after all ;)

lol thanks guys, yeah the bak pack dual skimmer is a large skimmer. meant for like 100 gallons. its actually two skimmers in one. and my tanks a 56 so i remove a cup of skimmate from each one every two days ontop of evaporation from my tank. Yeah I top off with RO water daily, ive actually got the salinity jump problems under controll now. but I was curious as to if it was salt or not.

As Nano says the skimmant is salt water not fresh so it will not directly cause more evaporation to cause your salinity to go up. But the extra surface movement of the water caused by the skimmer, and the lack of surfactants on the water, could cause the evaporation to increase, causing the salinity to go up. Of course it could also just be that with the warmer spring weather you are getting more evaporation as well.

Wow, people who were making jokes are actually getting a warning? I made a feeding joke on another thread and a couple people got all bent out of shape over it. What is going on? Is this a No Fun Zone now? Gadzooks, lighten up. Color me confused.

I actually edited what I originally had to say out of fear of being the only one saying something. Seems like it's time to walk on eggshells...

People can have fun. There is just some history with 'skimmate' threads that make this subject a little touchy, so that is why mission made the call. That said, let's stick to the subject and not turn this into a 'I dare you to drink it' sophomoric kinda thread. THANKS! ;) :)
