Hey OGW, a good rule of thumb is 5 watts per gal( 29x5=145). If you want to have all kinds of corals, then you should go with MH's. MH's rule of thumb is 9 watts per gal(9x29=261).

Remember that lighting represents only one piece of the saltwater success puzzle! You have to have limited amounts of turbidity, dissolved organics and particulates such as Glebstoff and film on top of your water. Also when you have a glass cover for your tank or saltspray accumulating on your protective cover for your lights, the irradiance is reduced lessening the amount of beneficial light.
Don't get me wrong, lighting is of utmost importance to many living organisms within the confines of your tank, it is just that other variables need to be incorporated and addressed to ensure your success and that of the livestock you are keeping!

Maybe I should have worded my question/s differently...

Would any of those choices be good/adequate for a FOWLR tank?
Will those lighting choices be enough to give the Live Rock what it needs?

Maybe down the road I might start keeping corals...but my main focus for the beggining at least is to keep a FOWLR tank. I'm sure I could add other lights in the future since I'll be building a canopy that rests on the top of the tank edge and mounting any lights in it. That way I can enter into this with the option to do other things later on.
Coral Reefer, I completely agree that there are many things to take into account...not the least of which is how much money one has in their bank account to spend.
I'm making every effort to get the best advice, to spend my money wisely, and to keep my options open for later...that's why I'm here;)
Alot of you here have this down to a science and keep great reef systems!
You probably do more things by habit with a reef system, without much thought to it, than I can fathom right now doing with a FOWLR.
I can start out just doing a FOWLR...remember that even just having a FOWLR can be overwhelming to someone starting out. Especially these days/daze...It's not like theres a lack of Information out here with the Internet to attempt to sort through and make the best choice from.
The money I save now by making good choices will go to finance a better overall system down the road and I wont end up later on having useless equipement laying around because it did not work or could not be used in conjunction with other gear.
