Depends on the bulkheads used and if its a reef ready then you have to use as a rule the 1" drains and 3/4 supplies from sump..I run 1" on this 180 on a 2" bull headed tee to the sump 40Ft away I ran a 1" back from pump then I split it to 3/4 feeds . If you drill the tank then you can use any size you want to But 1" and 3/4 will do fine ..

Now if you go to an internal circulation then you want volume and the pump would dictate that pipe sizing . Like my pump is 2" in and out so its fed with 2 1.1/4 lines to a 2" tee to the pump inlet and then as many bulkheads needed 4 6 8 to flow circulation water internally .

So we would need to know what plumbing you are dealing with and then pump sizes and flow rates you are trying too achieve

you could run one of the closed loops on the chiller, two pumps for the system ( incase one stops running ), another for the skimmer, phos,Ca going back to the sump, drain could handle the refuge.

but the drains would have to be larger than the intake to handle the extra flow.
