Hi guys, finally got my new Optiwhite tank for an upgrade from my usual tank. It's not going to be a new build just a new tank, same livestock, same water etc, just a bit bigger. My question is: since it's the same water and just about anything else is there a need for an acclimation when moving the fish into the new tank. Obviously they're going to be put into a bucket and so the bucket will, again, have the same tank water.

Another question is that I plan to lower the water as much as possible when lifting the sand and plan to throw out that little bit of water in case any bad stuff came up from the sand and then place the sand in my new tank. Is this a good method?

    Cheers, :).

If your tank has been established, I would just throw the sand out. No need to acclimate again if using the same water and if you have to make more salt water, just make sure to match the params.

To avoid transferring over a lot of the detritus when taking out the rock and such, use some filter floss or a sponge filter at the end of your siphon. Should help keep most of that gunk out of the new tank.

    +1 to ^^^

To put the sand issue into perspective, only a small percentage of the "bad stuff" will be left behind; the rest will be released into the new tank while you're making the transfer...

Okay, I'm back. I went ahead and added an extremely thin layer of sand to the tank unsure of what to do at the time (I didn't check back here until now unfortunately). As for the sand, no more than 4-5 millimeters at the most in areas so I assume I'm safe (?). What do you fellas recommend? Water change tomorrow when the tank has calmed down? Thanks :)

you're fine with what you have James. I've read several times that sand can be rinsed and reused so......you've transferred some seeding bacteria in there at this point.
