Cyanobacteria. Blue leg hermits will pick at it, but your best bet is to address its source (ie - a nutrient problem).

Some snails might eat it and possibly emerald crabs.

Whoa that can really overrun a tank!

I've never seen cyano before. I never had it during my initial cycle....Unless the few red algae spots the size of a pinhead between my crushed coral and glass was cyano.

I believe it is cyanobacteria, and that it survives off of phosphates, nitrates, and light. I battled cyano for the last 3 1/2 months. I tried a lot of things. I added more flow, less light, a fuge, wet skimmed, ro/di water, ect. What seemed to work for me was using BRS's high capacity GFO in a reactor (to remove the phosphates that were in my tank). I used 1/2 a cup and changed it out every 7 days. I had cyano on 80% of the sand & 50% on the rocks. 30 days later its down to less than 5% on sand and none on the rocks. Hope this helps.

I'm sure the suggestions of the true root of the problem nutrients lighting ect. is on the money since i have changed the feeding daily and was testing a new lighting schedule.

We didn't have this problem before the change.

Evolved ,Shecter i think i will try these suggestions first which are the most cost effect sounds like a winner. However we will be acquiring new CUC members for the future.

Shecter: Blackout as in no light at all? or no full light? Actinic, moon OK?

    Again thanks crew

Yeah, one of the best things I have found is a Turkey Baster to suck it up and dispose of it daily!

Sorry but I just couldn't resist. Unfortunately no there is nothing that will clean it up, you will have to do it manually. You might want to change the flow in your tank just a bit, that will usually clear up patches like that.
