Is there anyway to stop a Kole Tang from nippin' on clams?!

So I have discovered what my Kole Tang's latest hobby was....EATING CLAMS!

He only nips at my Deresa and this just started today. They have both have been in the tank together for over 2 weeks now!

Please tell me I can set things right and they can live in harmony again...I love that fish and I love me some clams.:-/:-[

 

sure hes picking at the mantle? not just going for the microscopic algae on the shell? other then that, i would say put a fine mesh box over the clam so it stilll gets flow and particle but the tang cant get him

 

My bristletooth is doing the same thing!!! ARGH! He has been picking at my new, beautiful, giant maxima. He doesn't touch the deresa or squasoma though. Maddening!! My maxima won't come out anymore.

You can try feeding yours little bits of food several times throughout the day and also keeping a seaweed strip in there. He might not be getting enough from grazing. Just a thought! Upping my feedings helped with my guy a little bit, though I still catch him nipping every now and then.

And I thought I had to worry about my dwarf angel....

 

I would venture a guess that he was picking at algae on the clams shell. Kole Tangs are herbivores and as far as I know a clam isn't a plant.

 

We will weather this storm together and try and see if we can find a solution KC!

I might get rid of my tang anyways. He is mean and picks fights with my angel constantly. And now he eats my clams! But we'll see...
