Is this a bad clean up crew?

They will eat polychaete worms as well as other snails. Essentially it will eat other beneficial detritivores in the tank as well as possibly snails you ACTUALLY PAID for!!

So don't put the bumble bee snails in?

 

I wouldn't. If food starts to run low due to all the other snails / crabs / etc. eating it before they get a chance, they'll turn to your snails to dine on.

 

I am not a fan of the serpent star. They can get a bit predatory when they get bigger. Also, I am a little leary of hermit crabs, just because some people have reported problems with corals. I have a few myself, but stick to dwarf ceriths, florida ceriths and turbo snails as my mainstay.

 

Mine do just fine. Sometimes I wonder because they'll sit there a few hours before they flip over but they eventually do. Maybe sometimes people are sold margaritas and they really aren't?

My lfs always has tons of margaritas and recommends them for this reason and only gets in astreas when they can't get margaritas.

 

wow I didn't realize how many snails & hermies are actually needed...I don't have any of either anymore...but I guess when you think about it you do need so many, because they're so small, just a few won't make a difference...thanks you guys...guess I'll be investing in both...
