When this first popped up I thought it was a feather duster, but it's growing really fast and it doesn't have the "feathers" that all my other dusters have. Any thoughts on what this is are greatly appreciated!

Ooooh that's so exciting!! This popped up in my 37 gallon, that's been set up for almost 8 months and has no coral in it at all!

The pictures are blurry to see it up close, but it doesn't look like a feather duster to me. If it has a solid disc in the center with tentacle-like appendages around it, like this seems to, it's likely an anemone of some sort. Feather dusters tend to have their feathers emanating from a much smaller "disc", if you want to call it that to begin with. The feathers also have cilia that you can see, if you look closely enough, whereas an anemone does not.

Thanks, I was thinking some type of anemone maybe...but I wasn't sure. I'll look at some Google images of anemones and polyps and see what I find. It just appeared one day and has been growing bigger and bigger!

By the looks of the picture, this is most definately a type of zooanthid or polyp. 100% positive that it is not a feather duster. Basically you got a head of coral for free :)

I agree! I just did a Google search and many of the polyps were growing from thick tubes that are the same color as the head - just like my little guy!! That's so weird he would just show up one day after having the rock in there for almost 8 months!! And there is no coral in there.
