I want to know if this is a fuge or a wet dry filter?
It starts in a big chamber with a protein skimmer built in then it goes to another chamber with a rack for bio balls and an area for macro algae and a bottom compartment for mud or live sand or rubble then onto another chamber where the water is pumped back into the D.T. is this a fuge? If not what is it?

THe output pump back to the DT is rated at 1400 per hour,
What size pump will I use to go from DT to the fuge/sump/wetdryfilter

sounds like a sump with a built in fuge..if the baffles are set up so the water flows over the center "fuge" section the flow through there will be less which is good..as for getting the water from the dt down there you just need an overflow box

yep. Sump/fuge combo. A sump is an area where you can store equipment and add to your tank volume. Equipment being protein skimmer, heaters, and you can plumb in different reactors and chillers as well. A wetdry is where you have different mechanical and biological filtration such as sponges/filter socks and biomedia. A fuge is where you can add to your water volume, and keep macro algaes and sea plants safe from harm and allow them to grow and purify your water. If your sump has all of these, than it's a wetdry/fuge combo. In a sump. Make sense? :)

They told me the return was 1400GPH so tell me how the F do I set this up I have half the atlantic in my living room floor now....I live in an apartment and this morning was the inspection...thank god it wasnt tomorrow morn....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off..these are overlfows! get one!

    CPR Overflow Boxes

well your return really depends on how big of an overflow you have..not sure how big your tank is..but if you get a 300 gph overflow..your return will need to put out a max of 300 gph at whatever height your tank is..i know on fosters/smith some of their return pumps show a chart of gph vs. height..the higher you have to pump it..the slower it's going to be..if you get a pump that's too big then your sump will run dry and overflow your tank..but if you do end up getting a pump thats a little too big you can put a ball valve on the return line so you can adjust it to the correct flow..so as for your 1400 gph return..that's just the max i believe..you can go with whatever flow you want as long as it's under 1400 gph

Okay so i just realized you already have the pump..sorry lol..so if you have 1400 (less actually due to the height) going in..you'll need an overflow that is around 1400 gph..but what size is your tank? you don't want water going through the sump too fast

There are 2 passive methods to get water from your display tank to your sump. The method I prefer is a drilled tank with internal drains. The other method is to use an overflow box. The overflow box is a relatively simple concept. You use two boxes, one inside the tank, one outside the tank, and a syphon tube to move water from one to the other. But there are a few important things to be aware of. It's very important that the Overflow not lose it's siphon if the power fails. If the siphon were to break, and then the power comes back on, the water will be pumped from the sump back to the tank, but no water will flow from the tank back to the sump. Depending on how much water is in your sump this may cause the main tank to overflow, all over your floor! Even without a flood it is a PITA to have to reprime your siphons in order to get your filtration running again.
