It might be Cycloserus, I just have not figured out which one.

Would you say it's attached to the rock?

Yes, it's definitely attached to the rock, with a skeleton, and since it was a tiny hitchhiker from LA, the chances of it being glued there previously are slim. Do Fungia ever grow on rocks, or start their life cycle on rocks?

Yes they do attach to rock when their small. They grow a stalk for lack of a better term and sometimes look like mushrooms because of that stalk.

Also, if you look at the larger pic, not the mouth closeup, you can actually see it's skeleton through the coral- I never realized it, but I'm pretty sure that pinkish circle is it's skeleton. It has quite a bit of flesh past that, which is probably why I've never seen the skeleton, and had to stick my finger underneath to find it!

Oh it's definitely an LPS coral, Fungia or not.

You must be doing something right it looks happy. I would just keep doing what your doing.

It may detach itself when it gets larger. It's a marvelous hitch hiker.

I looked up the Cycloserus, and it looks almost exactly the same, so hard to tell! After a quick google image search, I didn't see any with spots like mine though.
