A guy in my local aquarium club is selling an aquamedic ocean light metal halide fixture it's 48" and has two 250 watt bulbs on each end and one 150 watt in the middle. The only problem with it is one of the 250 watts doesn't fire up he thinks it is a problem with the ballast so he bought a new icecap 250 ballast but he never got around to wiring it up. He is selling it for $125 and it includes the icecap ballast and 3 almost new xm bulbs. Should I go for it? Also, how hard is it to "wire up" a ballast?

I just called the guy and I'm going to go check it out on Friday and if it is what he says I'll buy it. So, how difficult is it to wire up a ballast?

Its just a matter of cutting like 5 wires then splicing in the new wires. If the original ballast is a icecap then it should be color coaded. Its pretty easy and sounds like a great deal. If you have to many problems wireing it up, just send it to me I wouldnt mind using it. lol

Cool, thanks for the info guys I can't wait to pick this thing up. Only issue I can think of now is heat. This thing has two 250 watt bulbs and one 150 watt....at least I know I can grow pretty much any coral.

I'm hoping I won't need a chiller....my tank is in the basement and it stays about 72-74 degrees. If I have to I'll point a small fan at the water surface.
