I am setting up a 110 gallon tank that is going to be FOWLR at first and i may in the future want to start coralling.
I am trying to decide on a light fixture.
    My tank is 48x30x18

    I saw a Marineland Marine Series Pro Metal Halide Fixture 2X150W HQI & 4X54W T5, 48 inch.
I can get a brand new one for $400. should i jump on it???

I was wondering if you guys had experience with it and would it cover all my needs for the future?
    Anything you would recommend me.
Does it make sense to get a cheap t5 only fixture and hold of on the metal halides.

    Thanks ahead of time
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin

I have no experience with the fixture mentioned
but it does sound like decent value

if you got that, you could always run it without the halide lamps and just use the T5 tubes for illuminating a FOWLR set up
the later as you add corals, you could fire up the MH in addition to the T5

that way your preserving your MH lamps until you need them and keeping the tank cooler and running costs down in the mean time
