    +1 start small, you have forever to stock, might as well put lots of thought into it :)
    Start with 2 clowns, let them become accustomed to the tank and find a place. then think about one fish at a time, another good thing when thinking of fish is to think of what function they will serve in your tank. i.e. pest eating or algae grazing

    My Damsel is nice but its one in a million. Aggressive fish will ruin your day when they pick on a fish you love. Clowns can get pretty aggressive being in the same genetic area as damsl

    ok, sounds cool, but i really wanted some sort of goby, what one would be appropriate for my tank that i now have planned to have
    2 clown fish
    1 royal gramma

    How about 2 clowns (a black and white and a orange) and a Midas blenny? Then maybe a diamond goby to keep your sand sifted and stirred :)

    You have so many different options. In my 36 gallon i have 2 clowns (1 B&W Misbar, And a black Ice Cross) Also have 2 dracula gobies and a blue star leopard wrasse. They all get along great. My other tank the 26g has 2 platinum clowns and my hovering goby that i recently got.
