I have an opportunity to buy a used 55 gall All-Glass aquarium with a black wooden stand. Tank rim is black also. It's very clean and no scratches. Also comes with an Emperor 400 filter and alot of other fresh water stuff. They want $175. Is it a good deal? I don't know what a55 is worth.

if you see it and you like it and your OK with the price - then it sounds like a great deal to me , Man Nurse Reefer

There may be those who can point you in the direction of better deals
There may be those who will tell you they purchased a 6ft tank complete with a new house, and BMW sporster, they got a free meal and tickets for a show and all they paid was 27 bucks for it

there is always someone who can get a better deal

    the bottom line is

are you happy with the deal or not?
if you are, then its a good deal IMHO

It's not a bad price, but it's not great either. I'm currently trying to sell a 55 with stand, hood and lights for $150 on Craig's list and it's also in clean and excellent condition. I'd take $125 without a hassle. If I were buying the set up you are looking at, I'd offer $125 and see what they say. If they balk at it, then offer $150 and see what happens. The seller would probably take it.
    That's my 2 cents.

oh man I got ripped off then....

The stand to me is the most important part and for getting both under $200 that is a nice deal.
The local Pet stores by me sell the 55 gallon FW starter kit w/o stand for like $199 +

So your price with stand sounds pretty nice.

My only question would be if there has ever been copper based meds added to the tank to treat the fish.
If so then I would not plan on making that tank into a reef tank.
It is still good for any other purpose including FOWLR but you will mysteriously have issues with trying to keep most corals.

beyond that one concern Steve has put it better than I could.

    Good Luck :jester:

I decided not to get it. It is used and was set up as freshwater. The stand is one of those verticle board black stands. I would rather start out with a new tank and build a stand to suit me. The bad thing is that Petco had a sale that ended yesterday that I just found out about. They were selling tanks up to 55 gall for $1.00 a gallon, so I could have gotten a brand new All-Glass tank for $55 plus tax. Oh well.

Yeh I saw that sale yesterday, called Petco but they were all sold out. The lady said they all went very quickly. I just got my 29 system going 8 months ago and I'm allready itching to get a 55 gall system.
