Thanks for the tips. How do I bleach the rock? Just soak it in a combo of bleach and water, the same process with the baking soda? What about the sand is it no good anymore?

i wouldnt bleach the rock unless it has alot of bad hitch hikes like aptasia or majano.

yea you soak it in a combo, then after a day or so in that you start rinsing it in rodi, then let it soak in some rodi for a day. then let it sit out for a week, bleach evaporates in to the air.

i would probably add a bottle of prime when it is soaking in rodi to be safe.

the sand i would rinse multiple times in saltwater. buy puting it in a bucket of saltwater stiring it around with your hand and pouring it off until it runs clear. IMO cleaning the sand is very important

its usually not hard to start up. if you follow the general consensus and get many opinions.

it only gets hard when you dont follow general consensus and start say well it worked for this one person, maybe i should try it that way. im not saying dont be a free thinker, im saying dont be a free thinker with out expierence to back it up.

Sounds like you are taking the right path, just take things slowly, you'll be fine.

I'm back :) I have wayyy to many hobbies guitars, guns, fish. I found this on craigslist. This is what I'm talking about. This tank is still set up and running just with no fish. From what I've read this guy already has the "good stuff" It's been up and running for a year he just wanted to get out of the hobby. I spoke to him on the phone and he said there wasn't much to it just make sure are your levels are good.
