Is this a healthy uncommon coral or a common, uhealthy coral?

Just peeped this guy at my LFS and now that the owner has gone with a Current LED strip - all of the corals that have been in the tank for so long looking plain are now looking a little more lively.

    Can anyone ID this SPS?

Can you tell if it's healthy? I am pretty sure I can take it off his hands for $25 or so - is it worth it? Or am I looking at a nearly dead specimen?

    TIA

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have no idea what it is.

I would get it though, personally I like to see what corals turn into if given the right lighting and parameters. I would not say it's close to death at all.

Kinda looks like a montipora setosa. Polyps are extended so I'd say it is healthy. Might want to check it for algae. Looks like some on the back center and it may be bryopsis.

    Thanks guys!

Yeah it is bryopsis - best way to remove? Toothbrush and a pair of gloves? I will coral RX Pro dip it as well before adding to my system.

It has been in the store for the longest and has looked better and better over the last few months so that much was promising and it's a different orange/yellow so it would compliment the other colors I currently have.

Would be interested to see if it changes colors/growth habits in my system.

    Thanks again!

Oh yeah - I'd have to lean toward Montipora seratosa - montipora seratosa - Google Search

they all look like it - wonder if the one in my LFS will become one of those oranges or reds I see on the google search!?

There are three of them that size and have all been in there for several months. I think he's only getting like 30-40 for them too.

Use tweezers to remove the Bryopsis along with the toothbrush.
