tested the water using salifert kits. cal is 600 ppm alk 10.1 and mg is 1250. i dont dose with calcium. never add any buffer solutions. the only thing i have been dosing with is mg. (started 2 days ago) i tested for cal 2 seperate times (different days) both tests came up with 600ppm. i heard by bringing up the alk the cal will fall, but with it being right in the middle of the suggested level 8-12 dkh i am not sure. is the cal level being at 600ppm going to pose a problem.

Not a problem, the Ca levels are a little high which is probably why your Alk and Mg levels are a little on the low side. I'd say just slowly raise your Alk levels to 13.5-14, and then slowly increase the Mg to 1450-1500ppm, then your Ca should feel the effects and come down, you want the Ca to be anywhere from 450-500ppm. But that is just my advise, others might have something different to say i dunno. But no worries at all, you're on the right track, high Ca can easily be fixed!

Nah, it shouldn't. it's a lil' high but i've never heard of high calcium calcium causing any problems. your dkh is good but i like to keep mine around 12 so it shouldn't hurt if you raise it. calcium will go down in time as your LR and corals use it.

Mine has been riding in the high range and come to the conclusion it is the salt I use. What kind are you using.

+1. Welcome to the wonderful world of ALK. I keep mine at 12 also. It will fluctuate. I find that I test the Ca, Mg, pH and dKH the most often as it can change week to week. I do weekly tests on Ca and Mg and twice weekly on dKH if I think of it. Here is a good article on the subject you should read if you have not already.

raise Mg to 1500-1550 prior to raising dKH. Mg is the buffer between Ca and dKH.
