I just put in a Koralia #3 and have a funnel affect over it how do I stop this or is it not a problem after all? It seems the deeper I put it the longer the funnel. Hopefully this wont turn into a flushing toilet...

A funnel effect? Like water going down a drain? Except into the pump? No I would say that's not normal. My koralias certainly don't do that.

Mine is placed 1/3 of the way down my tank and apparently there isnt much flow below it because there is a tiny whirlpool on the sand that occasionally picks up Lawnmower Blenny poo and pulls it all the way up to the Koralia and then throws it across the tank in a cloud. Its not a whilrpool from the top but it is a swirly and a bit gross the first time you see it.

I think what you are describing is a Vortex - a swirl effect of water, similar to the one you get when you take the plug out of a bath or wash basin

this happens because the pump is pushing water out and new water rushes in to fill the void this water has left

I have had same effect with Power Heads located high in the tank
to combate this I lowered the PH but angled it upwards so I still got the surface movement I wanted but without the vortex

as stated already - this is just happening because of how close it is to the surface. as long as the PH is not blowing bubbles, I don't think it is a problem.

I can hear it - it's my audible signal that I didn't keep up on my top off water like I should have!

After lowering the PH, if the vortex is still there, place your hand within the vortex to break that pattern. That should keep it from happening again, unless it's still too clsoe to the surface of the water. I had that happen with my Bak-Pak skimmer too.

I have a Koralia 3 close to the top and have never seen a Vortex.

Both of mine are relatively close to the top, too, and I've never seen this either. But others posting here obviously have. How bizarre.

+1. My Koralia 1's will do the same thing. It is much more apparent if the little nozzle thing is not on the unit.
