    All I can think of is surface movement. The surface of my water is very agitated (quite wavey) which may prevent a vortex from forming. If your water surface is quite still try aiming one of your powerheads up a bit and see if this helps.

    Actually, this crossed my mind. Yours is brand new. I'm not sure how old mine are because I bought them used so maybe they aren't at their peak/optimal performance level? Could be...

    I also had to move mine down a bit but still only a few inches.

    Also did you notice on the shroud a spot in the vents that is solid with no vents for a couple inches? I believe the Koralias have this and that section should be on top so it doesn't suck down the vortex. At least this is what I think it is for. I don't know

    there are people on youtube with this same vortex thing going on with the PHs, seems like it could be quite dangerouse to smll fish.

    I've had same thing happen, just moved it down/around to different positions until it went away.
