Is this algae and how do I get rid of it?

    Hmmm, not sure if that's what I have, lol. Ill go pick some up tomorrow.

    They did warn me it would turn my tank reddish colored for about 20 minutes (which it did), does that sound slike GFO?

    No, you won't notice any change to the water color. Those quick removal chemicals should be used as a last resort they tend to be very harsh.

    Bulk reef supply stuff is good. if you dont have a 200 micron media bag just use some nylon panty hose. it will lower your phoshates down quick within days.

    maybe from the Iron in gfo, but your supposed to lightly rinse the GFO off before putting into tank/filter box. kinda same procedure for adding new carbon.
