Im gonna be getting back into this hobby after my dad got out of it years ago. I was searching for Nano setups on Youtube and i found this.

One of the reason i like it is because of simplicity of the set up and the rimless tank.

So my question is, is this setup adequate enouph to support what he has in the tank only using a skimmer? could you add more coral or fish? if it is good enouph i may go with a set up like this one.

A setup like this could work ... but please do your research.

They mention nothing of cycling the tank ... those fish would not survive without a cycled tank.

read up on the Nitrogen cycle, acclimation, water parameters, natural filtration, Lighting requirements ... etc etc

The tank could work in theory ... but it will take some education to keep it going.

I know about cycling the tank and everything but almost every other set up i have seen also has a wet/dry filter with a sump for a tank that size, that's why i was curious.
But im starting to assume this isn't the safest way yo go is it?

oh and LoJack thanks for the help. in your avatar are those polyps? if so what kind? they look very cool

IMO i would not do a setup like this. No real water flow. You def need more then one aq30 power head! If i where you id get an AIO bio cube

thanks for the input, when you say swing arm do you mean the rotating arm on the power head?

Nope the hydrometer, use a refractometer one million times more accurate! They swingarm will give you a different reading everytime you use it.

ok it looks like he added corals off the bat. Those will probably melt soon, the fish if he added all at once will probably die of ammonia poisoning, he's using that crap hydrometer, and what looks like a glass heater. Also, that rimless tank is way too nice to have that crap hanging off of it. Should be drilled.
