I don't believe that the elegance coral has changed to become more difficult, it's that they're being collected from different areas than the "hardier" ones were being collected from. Just keep the coral well fed with small pieces of shrimp, clam or mussel meat and hope for the best :)

yes but unfortunately the elegance coral is not worth that much... all the elegance corals ive seen in the home aquarium die after a while. 3 months was the longest ive seen. and that was in the lfs's 1500 gallon tank.

Yes Ph4y5e, I am in the exact same situation you are. Speak fluent cantonese, but all the LFS here think I am retarded or something. Everything I've read on the forums and books says to take everything slow, we shouldn't do this, or that......

But in Hong Kong, I believe the concept is very different. Everything can be bought and 'thrown in' to the tank any time. Everything is 'ready to go'. This is probably attributed to the fact that chinese people just can't wait for anything, everything must be fast. Secondly, and probably most importantly, is that everything is so cheap. On average, everything here costs 1/10th of what it costs in the US. When livestock is cheap and readily available, I guess people can take more chances, and don't have to be as careful.

BTW, I frequently travel to Macau as well, I'd be interested to know where the LFS are out there. (Relocation from OZ, huh? I bet I can take a guess at which industry you're in) ;D

problem with hong kong is that its way too commercial... the fish shop owners are in it for financial gain and well theyre in it to make a dollar more than any other fish shop in the world...but then again... we do have one of the best Aquarium shopping areas in the world...prince edward, love that place...will be going back there tommorow to pick up some more kit.

it is a shame to see such a throw away culture here though... they wont even think twice about buying something even if its unsuited for their tank...and 9 times outta 10 the LFS wont say a thing or ask any questions..theyre just happy for the sale...

There are only 3 shops in macau that sell marine stuff... ive gotten quite friendly with 2 of them already... im only gonna buy stock that has been caught outside of South East Asia cos everything caught around here will most likely be caught using Cyanide :( ... i know that they ship once or twice a month internationally...

check your pm for my email details :) i just find it cool to find somebody in Hong kong thats on this forum as well ..lol...
