Any ideas? looks like algae but its yellow and its only growing on the silicon i recently used to seal my overflow. Silicon used was All Glass Aquarium 100% silicon. Is it harmful? should i try to get rid of it? doesnt seem to hurt anything but i have noticed it is spreading along the seal. those tiny little hitchhiker starfish i guess are eating it since i always have a few on it. thanks in advance! :)

Algae probably just likes the rough edges of the silicone. If you decide to scrape it you could damage your seal.

Well its a 2 week old transfer from a 30 gal. to a 55. used old LS and 20LBs new LS, All same LR (~60-70lbs) and all of the water. ive been watching my params and everything is fine except a little high nitrates 40ppm, fish are happy as can be in their new home, everyone is eating great and very active, even my hitchhiker corals (kenya tree, mushroom and polyp) are not showing any signs of stress....

10acrewoods: i wasnt really going to scrape it as much as rub it with my finger or sth.

but as i said, weird that its only growing on the silicone...

So what your saying is that its a 2 week old system? The algae is normal, esp, if you have 40ppm of No3. Get some snails, they'll take care of it. Luna

lol yeah two weeks. Will the nitrates hurt the snails though? So i guess its safe to say this algae is safe?

Have you tested for other elements? Like Nh3 and No2? You shouldnt have any livestock in your tank right now. Thats if your "system" is only 2 weeks old. Luna

lol are you kidding me? early in November you told me i can do the transfer the same day from my 30 to the 55...

I quote you... "IMO, you can add the fish the same day at the same time. You are basiclly only changing the tank and adding some more water. I dont see an issue."

Yes, only things i havent tested for are Ca, Alk, PO4, and Mg.

    As follows...

    Salinty: 30PPT (~1.023)
    Temp: 78F
    Ph: 8.2
    NH3:0ppm
    NO2:0ppm
    NO3:40ppm

Yes I said that, maybe you didnt understand what I meant by the word "system". When I asked you how old the tank was, I didnt mean in the new tank, I meant as a whole, old and new tank. Luna
