    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if this portion circled in the picture is coralline algae. I have been waiting to see if any popped up and was wondering if this was the real deal. If it isn't, how will I tell in the future? Thanks!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

Sorry that it isn't in better focus. My camera kept wanting to get the foreground in focus. The lighter shades seem to where it may have once been. This was new live rock that I cycled my tank with. This new patch of purple is much brighter and almost looks velvety if that makes sense. Thanks again!!!

Looks like you have signs of coraline growth for sure. It should start growing a lot in the next month or two, it's pretty much exponential, at least for my tanks.

Sorry for the fuzzy picture. I tried to get a better one but don't know if I succeeded. If not, let me know and I will keep trying. Anyway, here are a couple more shots. Thanks again for the help!!!!

looks fuzzy to me, which wouldn't be coralline. The light purple stuff in the first pic looks like coralline.

Also, coralline algae comes in so many colors you can't really tell just by that... I have green, white, pastel green, lime green, red, pink, 4 shades of purple... look at some other tanks, you'll see what I mean.

It does look sort of fluffy to me as well. I have some coralline that looks like that, fluffy and all.

I would not be worried about it though, even if it is not coralline.

isnt coraline that stuff that just goes on every piece of live rock. Like i have live rock with like 13 different colours on it, looks like squished gum even. isnt it what changes your brown coloured live rock to beautiful assorted colours?
