noticed this little patch of stuff on branch of candycane coral. don't think its coralline, because it has little green dots on it and it stands out from the rest of pink coralline. i figure it was some type of encrusting coral. what do you think it is?

Yes, although the picture is blurry, I'm pretty sure it's an encrusting coral. The name of it escapes me at the moment. though

Surprising I know what it is from the picture, hahaha! I have 3 small colonies of it that hitch hiked on 3 different corals. Leptastrea sp., the color might not be the same in the pic because it comes in all sorts of colors.

Here is a picture what I have that resembles your pic... Mine was ID'd as a Leptastrea Pruinosa. EXTREMELY slow grower , its finally growing back over the dead spots from when I got it like 9 months ago. Oh yeah, the polyps are super small, so its hard to get a good pic of them, even with a good camera.

thanks geekdafied, does look very similar. mine is smooth mound like, dimpled where the dots are. must be because its still young and hasn't developed the tentacle look yet. the second pic that you showed reminded me of moon coral aka favites.

They're similar, but a lot smaller. Like 1/4" being the biggest polyp.
