I need some fast advice. I'm about to buy some lighting. 2x 175 Watt Metal Halides 10K and 2x 96 watts Actinic bulbs. Would this be enough for a 55 gallon tank or a 75 Gallon tank?

I want to be able to keep all corals and fish. Both the 55Gal and 75Gal tanks are 12 inches deep. Someone please lemme know if this should be good enough or if I need to post more information.

Oh.... I'm using a ecofilter only on these tanks... don't know if that is any consideration.

For a 12" deep tank 175 should be enough for almost anything

A standard 75 gallon tank is 20 inches tall. Is this a standard tank? If it is 21 inches tall by 48 inches long and you want to be able to keep ALL corals, I would go with 250 watt metal halides. If it is shorter the 175 watt mh's should work fine.

It's actually too much for the 55g. :-[ What are the dimensions for the 75g?

1 175w MH would be good up to a standard 60g.

Everyone has been saying T-5 is the next best thing. Bruce has T-5, maybe he will ring in.

To say you want to be able to keep ever coral but can only spend $350 is kinda like saying I want the fastest car made but I only can spend $2000.00

Perhaps you can start off with a good quality $350.00 lighting set up that will give you enough light for most corals and then upgrade later.
