Fair market value is defined as the highest price one is willing to pay. To answer the question, "Is this fish worth 2 grand?" you'll have to check the end of this auction. If it sells for 2 grand, I guess it was worth it.

Would I pay 2 grand for a fish? That's another story. LOL.

Agree, "value" is based on desire and amount of disposable income that can be "invested" in fish tank...Heck ya, if I had a few thousand $ laying about and not already needing a home...I would seriously consider such a rare beauty.

Most I ever spent for a fish was $120 for my Flame Wrasse...could I really afford it? - no. But was best money ever spent for the enjoyment I got out fish while I was lucky to have it. ~3 Years

Heck, we spend thousands for pumps, lights, tank, LR, etc., etc...

I think spending a bit more on a really special specimen is not only deserved but should be done. (may never be able to admit price paid to spouse :p)

But knowing it is unusually beautiful and not very common (translates to pricey $$$) adds to joy of having it in living room - (not that are not lots of inexpensive beautiful fish)

Have a coffee can in sump where all spare change goes, so in time, someday, I can hopefully get another Hawaiian Flame Wrasse...

 YO MOMMA...you are not just whistling Dixie!!!!

    Was curious so looked up:

    MarineCenter -

    Latin Name: Zebrasoma gemmatum
    Common Name: Gem Tang
    Also known as: Gemmatum Tang

    Price: $3,499.00

"...This is the most frequently asked for, least available tang on the planet. Get one while you can, these will go fast!..."

Wow! Guess I better hurry up and order before they run out...maybe I should get a matched pair? :p

Don't forget guys, it's in the maine tank!:laughing0

Seriously though my LFS has had lemon peel angels that look exactly like that for $40. Much better deal for something that looks the same. Why buy name brand when you can get generic for $1960 less?;)
