this is an sps that was sold to me as birds nest. it looked to be doing well as i have seen some growth but in the last few days the base has turned white. this is my first shot at sps and im currently running ~10 nitrate, 400 ca, 9 alk ~1400 Mg undetectable phos(tho i know there is some). lights are 4xt5 on a 55(month old). all sps are within 8" of surface.

is it already gone or can i save it?? thanks guys

10 nitrates???? Why even buy it? How many sps do you have and how are they doing? I forgot what kind of diease this is. Something about dying tissue or something. Don't want to be a buzz kill here but that can't be good for your sps's!

my purple acro, poli and red monti are ok but my birds nest and my green monti have those white spots. nitrates are really hard to tell on my kits (damn api) so it could be between 0-10 so i went with the highest. you mean RTN i believe...

It's called Rapid Tissue Necrosis- RTN. I had the same issue about 3 weeks ago because my Alk was at 6 and calcium at 720 and lost a lot of my SPS colonies. About 5 branches survived from the mother colony and I fragged it above the damaged area and glued it to a rock. The RTN stopped and I'm hoping these frags will survive and regrow. My Alk is at a steady 8 and my Cal is still at 600 on its way down to normal.
