just want to make sure clear poly vinyl tubing is fish safe? wanting to use some for a sump return line only if its not going to harm my inhabitants. Maybe a dumb question but i was worried it could leach chemicals from the plastic into the water.

It's fine, I use it for my return from my sump.

As long as it's never been used for anything and is new it will be fine. It may leach some silicates and you may see a small diatom bloom but that will happen everytime you put some new plastic in your system.

Only thing I do not like about clear tubing is that you will get a small amount of algae growth wherever the tubing is near light.

I can only agree and say it's safe and don't worry about a diatom bloom... that will go away...

Wrap it barber-pole style with masking or electrical tape....whatever you have. Problem solved.

I would do that over using black or PVC. There are sponges and what not that grow in no light and will cause a larger flow impedance than some algae. Plus, you will be able to see in the tubing if there is an issue.

I prefer to see into my tubing. Yeah, algae can grow... but I'd rather see where it's blocked if that happens.
