    try to figure out what ballast it comes with. i reserve my judgement until you find the manufacturer and unit. you don't want a cheap ballast.


    really the ballast and the reflector are the most important things, a good bulb just save you some money, but a bulb can be replaced the reflector and the ballast, well they can be replaced to but they are what your really paying for and you want good ones.

    this sounds like a good one, but its only one light.
    250W Icecap Metal Halide Ballast/bulb/reflector MH - eBay (item 280278539754 end time Oct-22-08 19:36:48 PDT)
    icecap ballast are pretty good


    edit: hellolights.com has good prices i would probably try to put a system together through them, just make sure you get the right stuff. actually when i first got into the hobby i bought my vho kit from them, which you probably don't know what they are because they have been completely replaced and out performed by t5's, it was over 5 years ago

    i have a 26 bowfront now(just bidding my time until i can get a house and the tank i want), he has a 140g 48 long and 30 tall

    ok i found a online calculator.
    your tank is 48x18wx30h right
    well the gallonage of that size is 115 gallons(actually 112.2)

    this still doesn't change the type of lighting you need because your tank is so tall
