These little white spots have just shown up on my new laboutei wrasse.
just wondering if anyone can confirm if its ich? or something else?
I had thought ich was just for tangs and clowns :-/

He was added 2 days ago with a leopard wrasse. They are the first fish in the tank so didnt think QT would necessary. They seemed happy and have been eating live blood worms and some hikari spirulina brine shrimp. not showing much interest in NLS pellets or ocean nutrition flakes unfortunately.
    Water tests results seem normal.
If this is ich and QT is the only way to treat I may be able to get something setup, but not til tomorrow.
Any thoughs on this would be great.
    Thanks.

You soak your food in garlic and let them fight it out. It helps with their immune system. Selcon is also good too.

Thanks, I was planning on getting some garlic in the morning. I can't seem to find anything on selcon being in Australia but can see rumours of DIY recipes so will look into that.
Does it actually look like ich to you? I expected the spots to be bigger, but it is a very new condition so I guess it may get worse.
If it is ich, how long do they have to start showing signs of improvement before I start to worry?

Yep, that's ich! Ich can be on ANY fish! Even the mandarin fish with a thick layer of mucus coating is still susceptible to ich.

Here are some ways you can rid of ich:
    In QT Tank,
    1) Hyposalinity Treatment (Least stressful way)
    2) Copper Treatment

Another way that worked for me:
+ UV Sterilizer - get a good UV sterilizer and let it run for more than 3 months. Note that anything that passes through the UV Sterilizer will die instantly. So, when the ich is in its free floating stage, this is when the UV sterilizer becomes really effective. My tank was completely algae free and super clear with UV sterilizer too. This is a very controversial method, but it worked for me.

Good luck with your fishes! :)

    Thanks for the ID
Will grab some garlic and see what I can do for a QT tank.
keeping one going for a couple months might be an issue but will see.

UV sterilizers will diminish your pod and other critter populations dramatically. Good luck pretty fish, the dealer that sold it should be ashamed.

I can't afford to add a UV right now anyway, but have read mixed opinions on their use in the hobby. I havent read or experienced enough to make up my own mind yet. Probably wouldnt run one full time unless I start having some kind of problem that specifically needs it.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but I actually consider the staff at my LFS my friends and can't see me blaming them for this. Their advice has always been excellent and I know they care alot more about their stock and its survival than what I have heard about some other stores.
I assume that this has been bought on by stress and find that understandable considering that this fish was likely on the reef not so long ago and would have no doubt seen multiple tank transfers and different conditions in recent times before it made it to me.
It is a somewhat harder fish to find so, right or wrong, I chose to jump at the chance to get it while I could. I'm sure even if I didnt, someone else would have very quickly.
I'm not meaning to have a go at you and really do appreciate your input, just that although my LFS hasnt been named I still dont think it needs to be thought of so negatively, especially without an opportunity to defend themselves.
