I don't really know how to describe this. I am getting the distinct impression over the last few days/weeks that this thing isn't growing and budding blasto flesh, but some sort of alien smothering crusty booger.

You see how the one blasto is sucked in, like into it? I haven't caught it fluffed up and big now in a few days....

It was smoothish and I thought the flesh was swelling and getting ready for some new buds, but now it's looking crusty and highly irregular.

    Thoughts?

I cant say for certain, but to me it looks like the polyp is dieing and melting into its own skeleton. Perhaps an iodine dip is in order here? Just in case either way....

How high is it in your tank? I understand blastos do not need high lighting. Also the flow - they do not like being blasted.

ive got the exact same blasto as pered. low flow, low light and mine developed this same look. its been like that for a few months now and hasnt spread or killed off any other heads. localized rtn? or are blastos susceptible to that? hope you get the answer pered , would help me too. :)

it is about halfway under T5's. I would say the flow here is low/medium.

it's been in same spot since day one. i've had it for several months. I got it with one head and it quickly sprouted the 3 additional heads around it... then it kind of stalled (no biggy) and recently this growth has been accumulating...

I'm not sure if this is a natural part of their growth or not... it 'might' be bc of a change in the flow as i did rearrange the powerheads... it's flow hasn't changed intensity, but directionally, it's different...

do blasto's have skeletons? could it be an odd formed skeleton?

Blastomussa does have a skeleton Jason. I never saw mine doing that. Here is how I would represent a bad/pissy looking blasto. It looks sucked up and the skeleton is slightly showing through.

I think you may have some type of invader. Maybe encroaching on the neighboring polyp. You should try and agitate the coral into closing and see if you can get a better look/feel.
