Is This LAVA ROCK????!!!!

Please tell me if this deadrock is lava rock, 'cause if it is, I have to get it out my new tank right away and go back to the store I got it,which is an aquarium, and strangle the A-hole who sold it to me...Please I need your help here...thanks.

most lava rock is red all the way through like the rocks in gas grills.

 

Thats lace rock, also good choice for turning into liverock. Very similar chemical makeup to Tufa rock. As mentioned, lava rock is red from all the metals in it.

BTW geek, I must ask you, you think that's a good set up? it's my first and I'm all open to advice, specially from you....as you can see, the pieces on both sides are, according to the aquarium guy, "live rock", I don't see how that's live in any way...there's absolutely nothing living on them, they stink up my water and just today, before I put the rest of the other rocks, I had to clean those pieces of live rock and remove a lot of black crap smelling stuff from them...so, please tell me, straight up if I got ripped off, 'cause if so, I'll have to face the dude at the store..thanks again...oh, those pieces all together wait about 20 lbs, the rest is about 27 lbs..my tank's 46 Gals and the sand is 40lbs. Thanks again bud.

Oh, I should mention..when I bought it, the guy told me the rock was not cured, but since I was setting up a new tank, the rock could be cured while the tank was cycling....

 

not cured=dead and dieing critters=stinky water and/or house. I would put a skimmer on there is you dont have one because you can get too much ammonia and kill off the beneficial bacteria qand defeat the purpose of cycling or seriously slow it down. Depending on how much you gave for it is what makes it a good deal or not. Next time you set up a tank, buy mainly base rock, and a couple of choice pieces of liverock to keep the cost down cause it will all turn into liverock.

As for the aestitics of it, looks awesome, one of the better aquascaping jobs Ive seen.

 

another thing, lace rock isnt found in the ocean. Its mined.So either they bought it from some places that farms rock or from somebody bringing there liverock.
