Its a Hamilton Technology Bimini Fixture 250 watts. Including the mounting legs and a new 20k lighting bulb. My lfs is selling this set for $150. In the future, I plan on having a soft coral-only frag tank (polyps, mushrooms, etc).

My future plans is to create a shallow frag tank (soft corals, polyps palys), which will be connected to my display tank (40 gallons).

Will this lighting be sufficient and effective enough for my future soft coral frag tank? And is this priced fairly?

Here is a link to the lighting.

Thank you for any inputs =]

if you are getting the whole fixture; bulb, reflector, and ballast that is a great deal. On a 40 gallon frag tank that will be more than enough. If you want more growth on the corals I would change bulbs to a 14K or better yet a 10k

If you only want softies, I would not use a halide to light the tank.

I would instead go with a used nova extreme or tek t5ho light or retrofit.
Granted that is a great deal on the light, but it probably won't spread enough light over the frag tank to make it worthwhile without a light mover.

How big will the frag tank be?

Agreed, I think he has a 40g? I'd go T5 as well for softies. (It would be nice to have that lamp for a "rainy day" though.)
