k, so I got the frogspawn about a week and a half ago and it had 3 heads at the time. Now one of the heads has successfully made a split, I noticed 2 mouths on one head and it was in an hourglass shape getting ready to split and when I took an even closer look i noticed that one of the recently split heads is starting to split again! So, started off with 3 heads and soon will be 6 in another couple weeks probably... is that normal for it to be growing that much and under mini compact flurescents in a 10gal? I do feed it often though and I dose calcium and "reef builder" to raise alk. No budding though, just lots of splitting! is this normal? or unusually fast? I must be doing something right though right? this is my first LPS so I'm unsure. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Lps like fragspawn and candy canes grow quickly. They don't require excellent water conditions to thrive like some other corals do. I'm sure in no time you'll wish they'd stop splitting haha

So that's a good coral for beginners then?

It's a good beginner LPS coral, for your very first ever coral I would go more towards the softies.

i dont think there is a beginners coral. i think a frog spawn is a perfect beginners coral. when i hang out at the lfs we recomend them all the time. cheep grow fast which beginners like. colorfull. and not a picky coral. but it is all personal preference what u start with

I got mine give to me about a month ago. It isn't splitting but growing new little polyp heads out the side of the branches. It has gotten about 3 new ones in a month. Didn't know they could split also. Learn something new everyday.

Zoas are pretty hard to mess up. Just don't squash them in your tank. Mushrooms are pretty safe bet as well. I have heard stories that to frag a mushroom, you throw it in a blender lol

They grow fast, especially if you feed them. Really can be one of the fastest growing corals out there.
