I have what I think looks like green algae on my sand and I can see some starting to form on the glass too. Should I get more hermits and snails?

That's what my bryopsis looked like when it first started to grow, so there is a chance that worrying need be done.

The ones on my tank walls look like two little strings coming out of it. My local fish store told me that I could carefully take the sand with algae out to get rid of it.

Normal in new tank...you will go thru several cycles of different nuisance algae.

Would be very surprised if turned out to be bryopsis...a kind of hair algae (that does not look like it at all).

Usually starts out on rock rather then sand.

Get more hermits, they will clean it up quickly for you!

    Good Luck!
