I have a 125 gallon tank(just bought it) and about to buy equipment for it.

I was browsing and came across this overflow box and return pump and was wondering if anyone had insight on these brands and if this will work out or not.

Overflow box is "CPR CS100 Overflow Box"
    CPR CS Overflow Boxes Details

Return pump is "Danner Mag-Drive Supreme 9.5 950 GPH Water Pump"
    Danner Mag-Drive Supreme Water Pump

I also found as a Return pump that could work "Gen-X PCX30"
    Gen-X External Water Pump

Which return is better?? Will these work? Or should I use a different combo?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am a little confused in how to tell what size tubing I need for the overflow box and also the return pumps... The overflow box doesn't say at all on this site... But the return pumps tell me an "Fittings (Inlet/Outlet)" of 3/4in MPT. Does this mean I need 3/4in tube to fit the return pump?? What about the overflow box? Help please! lol  ;D

If you haven't been welcomed..well welcome to 3reef!

Have you looked at EShopps overflows? That's what I use and wouldn't ever use any other OF if I ever needed another wier system again. EShopps is very reliable, well built and inexpensive.
But I've read alot of good reviews on CPR as well.

As far as the bulkhead on the OF box..They're usually 1" slip fitting and you'll want 1" drain all the way to the sump.

Danner Mag Drive's are excellent pumps. The only problem I've ever had with them is they don't handle back pressure very well.
I've never used a Gen-X pump and have only read reviews, both good and bad.

Looking at the EShopps, for a 125gallon would I need the PF-800 or PF-1000??

    PF-800.. 8" x 3" x 10" H Up to 125 gallons Single 800 gph
    PF-1000 9" x 3" x 10" H Up to 200 gallons Dual 900 gph

If I do get the 800 with only 800gph would the MagDrive 9.5 be too much for the overflow box??

I use the CPR OFs and I love them never had a problem and if you should decide to go with the other brands 800 the 9.5 Mag should be fine just take into account your head pressure.

will the mag9.5 pump too much water out and have not enough water in?? Or will I have to limit the flow of the Mag9.5 somehow?

    Thanks

you will want to put on a ball valve for any return pump, so you can fine tune flow to get optimal flow, without getting too much and over filling your tank. I have an eshopps overflow and love it. Never used a cpr overflow, but i know they have a bigger price tag than the comparable eshopps. just something to think about.

    Food for thought:

I had a 90gal not reef ready All Glass tank like new. Before I filled it with salt water I read somewhere on a forum that a reef ready saltwater tank is 1000 times better than a tank not fitted and drilled for reef. In my mind I said Hmmmm, and reflected on it. Afterwards I sold the Not reef tank for 150.00 on Craigs List and purchased the very same tank for 280.00 drilled and fitted for reef with mega flow. Then I got off the ground with saltwater.
It's been three years now I venture to say: "A reef ready tank is 1000 times better than a tank that has to be fitted with overflows."

I made all my overflow, including 21 in. of intank surface skimming.

NOt hard, and definitely NOT much money at all.

What you have should be fine, a simple ball valve in the plumbing works well, even better with a bypass back to your sump, so some of the flow can be diverted. JUst stay with the general rule, the OF always has to be able to handle the output of the RP.

Your in-tank surface skimmer is good design but not to be confused with hang on overflow boxes, the hang ons have different ins and outs to them.

I find the design of the in-tank to be very interesting. Looks like the priming pump for the down siphon always runs?

I just started my 120 with two CS100 overflows and Gen x mak4. The pump pushes lots of water and I have it valved back some. The overflows are reliable, having used one for four years with zero tank overflows. The Aqualifter runs constantly and will immediately restart the siphon after a power outage. I do recommend Eshopps drain hoses.
