I found out my overflow line to sump is restricting the flow from tank to sump. I am planning to expand the flow line to 1.25". or is 1.5 is better?

    Thanks!

I am not an expert, but it looks like the limiting factor is the outflow of the overflow and that a larger "hose" to the sump will not increase the flow. A different higher volume overflow is probably what you need.

right now, the inside box is filled up to the top...like the tube is not sucking fast enough. This happened when I extend to return line 6" vertically and 6" down to the sump. I have 2 holes to let the air out but that was not enough.

Will it improve if I do what I planned (expanding the return line to 1.25" or 1.5")?

    Thanks!

I don't think it will. Sounds like you need a bigger volume overflow.

You are right Craig. I added an U tube (an flex tube I found) to one of my overflow and it can catch up to the pump....another problem arise...the famous FLUSHING SOUND!!! The tank is in my TV room and I can't hear the TV higher than normal volume.

I will head to HD first thing in the morning and get me a 1 1/4" bulkhead and see if that will help. Should I do 1 1/2", or that's overkill?

    Thanks!

I can't for the life of me remember what size I used, solid white flex tube to avoid algea growth. It was somewhere in the vacinity of 1.25 - 1.5", but it fit into the bottom of my overflow snuggly.
