my tank hasnt been setup for too long only bout 2 weeks but i havent encounter any algae bloom r anything like that...

    temp 26C <--- constant
    gravity 1.021 <--- a bit low?
    nitrite 0.1 <---- hit 0 today
    nitrate 10 <--- went 5 today
    pH 8.0
    kH 9.0

29 gal tank got bout 10 kg of LR in there the water is very clear. the LR i got is fully cured when i put it in the tank. no ammonia test kit as every lfs in my town is sold out. :-/ wonder how that happened....

save to add some clean up crew in there?

I would IMO, hold off on the clean up crew for a little while til you get some livestock in there and let it mature a bit! Start off with fish etc. and make sure you do it gradually. Don't add all of your fish in at once. Possibly some corals and inverts(ie. shrimp or brittle/serpent stars).
What do you plan on keeping in your tank? What kind of lighting do you have etc.?
    good luck...

After 2 weeks, even with live rock in the tank, you have barely started the nitrogen cycle. Once you can find a test kit, check your ammonia. The fact that you were able to measure any nitrite at all is an indication that something is going on, chemically speaking, and your tank is not yet mature.
I agree with Coral Reefer. Put one creature in the tank, keep measuring your chemical levels, and wait.
Your salinity is a bit low. Add some saltier water to bring it up to 1.023 or so.
Don't forget to stop and enjoy the beauty of your new tank!

yes the tank look very beautiful. when i first started all i can see is brown water and my wife says nothing can survive LOL :p

got a ammonia test kit today made by prodac, never heard of the brand but its the only one i can get my hands on. not sure how accurate it is but the test shows about 0.5 mg/l, the LR must be doing its job i guess. as for increasing salinity, can i pump water out of my tank and add more salt in it and dump it back to the tank?

Kevink when you start adding fish most people will buy an Damsel ( believe me I know) - they are very hardy and inexpensive- but they also get very aggressive as they mature and it took me a whole afternoon to get mine out of the liverock- just some food for thought-

You are correct to a point bouraganes... Green and Blue Chromis' and the small less territorial Damsels-Yellowtail make great additions and add vibrant colors to your reef! A small number of 5-7 chromis' will school together under the right conditions as well.

yes i heard damsels are good for cycling tanks but very agressive and most likely need to be remove after the cycling.

is there any other possible choice? the guy at lfs says false clown is quite hardy as well.

Well I have used a SINGLE just one not two or three just one yellow tailed blue Damsel for every new tank I have ever set up and I never had a problem with them. They remain rather small and all are wimps. We cycled a small tank last December with Just one of them who thought it was his tank after 4 months and when we added a pair of small Perc's after one kicked his Butt and he just as all ever have have in the last several decades of using them just hides in the rocks . LOL I'm using just one now for the larger tank.. But just one never two..or three .

You need to have something alive in there to keep the cycle perking along All the nitryfing and denitryfing bacteria on and in the L/r will die off
if the bio demand is not present whe the bacteria and demand are equalized. No tank can ever build up or keep in reserve any bacteria present in the nitrafication process. Its always only avilable in sufficient numbers to handle the bio-load that is established in the system and if you add a fish it has to increase and if you loose a fish it has to die off.. a 10,000 tank with one fish has just enough bacteria to handle the bio load of that one fish no more no less.

water seems to be much better now nitrate drop to 0 again so i add 2 hermit crab in the tank.

1 of them was given to me bout peanut size the other one however is huge, think its shell is 20cm, do they grow that big? and do i need more there is quite a bit of green algae in my tank atm.

posted a pic of the big one the tiny one disappear in my tank already. its cleaning the rocks and glass very well eating its way through.

i think my question will be whats a good hardy coral to start? i saw some lovely carpet, bubbles, mushrooms and elegant coral in the shop today and also some new brains that arrived recently.

and also is it better to get a decent size coral or go with tiny little ones?
