It's probably a bit late but I used the cocktail shrimp method to cycle my tank rather than buying some damsels as I didnt want them in my tank. Put two shrimp in a pair of tights (not mine ;) ) and left it in there until there was hardly anything left. All the levels in the tank kicked into action and then had various algae blooms. The amazing thing is that my tank looked awful at one point, brown algae everywhere and then it all dissapeared without trace. In total it took around 4-5 weeks to cycle and then I put some fish in and didn't have any problems.

    Good luck and enjoy

I have only rushed one tank and that was a had to matter and I still waited 6 weeks and was uneasy I take mine for 12 week before I ever add a another anything I don't test for ammonias and nitrites it will appen and nitrates can be taken car of later but I have never had a problem with them after 12 weeks. Thats my method and how I have always done it and never a problem as a rule as I spend the weeks getting water parameters very stable.. I always have a slight start of corallines and IMO until that can be cultured the tank is not ready for any other type of coral. But thats just me I have never had many tank problems long term to speak of..The little one I rushed last Dec is fine but it had its small problems with NO'3 the voil fixed that now its rock solid and full of sps and several clams .. Good Luck with what ever you do in there.

i will probably add a chiller to the setup soon as its quite hot where i lived... i turn the air conditioning on a lot but the power bill isnt exactly a pretty sight to see at the moment.....:(

another thing is ive seen a lot of ppl do without external filtration and at the same time some does i have only live rock doing all the work, will i see a improvement for adding one in the setup after i do add more livestock afterwards? the tank isnt huge with 12kg or so LR in there.
