I do 1-2 gallon daily water changes and a 5 gallon weekly water change on my 24 gallon using RC and I still dose 2-parts, additional Ca, and Mg. As your coral load increases the higher consumption of the trace elements. Water quality has a huge impact on growth and color, especially when your dealing with SPS and LPS corals. You need quality test kits and after you get the hang of things you don't have to test all of the time. I test Alk and SG weekly. Ca, Mg, and Phosphates monthly, unless I added a bunch of new corals. I don't even use the other test kits anymore. Here's a older pic of my tank and it drinks trace elements. It's a little cluttered, but I just fragged a bunch of stuff and was reorganizing at the time.

haven't we forgotten one of the most important factors in growth.. what type of lighting do you have over your tank?

what size tank do you have it over, that doesnt sound like much light. Also, if you keep SPS you are gonna have to dose, and to dose you need kits, teasting alot in the begining, and then less over time

Hmm yes, all depends on what size tank you have, may or may not be enough light. Like everyone mentioned though grabbing some Salifert test kits is a must if you want to dive in just gives you much better piece of mind to know your levels. I know it's a pita and being 15 prob makes funds a little tougher. I'm only 7 but I find lots of $ under the couch pillows.

For what it's worth, I made the switch from regular IO to Reef Crystals and did notice a change in growth, my duncan really started taking off afterwards. It does have a higher CA concentration.
