I dont see how he (anyone) can sell a tank full of stock, you have to expect a cycle. So I dont think you can throw in the price of the tank, cause you would have to have an established tank already to house them while the other tank went through the cycles.

One mans trash...Again, just looking at the stock list and assuming that things aren't half dead I could easily see him making that much just by parting out all the corals. Not the smartest stocking list but for sure an expensive one.Think of the tank as a freebie.

Smart idea for somebody new to the hobby to jump on it? Nope, but I might make an offer if it was around here.
Of all the ridiculous things people try and pass off on CL this is one of the more reasonable ones :)

I agree, that is quite the list he has in that thing. True watermelon chalice sells for about 100 bucks for less than a half inch by itself. Also with the dendro, acans and nice clam that tank could be sold for a profit.

if I were close it would be a good deal. If someone used the same rock, same sand and all that good stuff and kept it to temp, there wouldn't be much of a cycle at all. I have moved several tanks from one location to the next with minimal cycle. it just has to be done carefully. You have to A: have the money B: be local and C: appreciate high end corals. I can only claim one of those and it isn't the money or locality

I could swing two of the three, but MI is a bit of a jaunt. Moving something that small would be wicked easy, and if there was enough of a cycle to warrant worry just move everything over to another tank for the duration :)

Ok perhaps I should explain to you what the guy actually said about it.
He told me he had pulled out some of the stuff he didnt want in his tank, found this old
3 gallon, mixed up some water, put in clean sand and put it all in there the day before he listed it. He actually said that the Tang was a rare miniature tang, a "teacup" tang if you will, and that it wouldn't grow to a bigger size. The clown was also a rare miniature.
He said it would be perfectly fine and actually preferred by most saltwater hobbyists to have such a small tank because the smaller tanks are a lot healthier and you wont get any fish illness in them. He also said you wouldnt have to do tests on such a small tank and water changes were a definite "NO no" I couldnt belive it.
Its not so much the price I was poking at, but the sheer stupidity of having such a small tank crammed full and then fibbing about it. Hopefully a true SW lover takes them in, but I can see a novice who wants it all at once getting it and then having everything die.
I realize that the Corals are mad expensive and in all its a great deal, But Like I said its his attitude that got me and I have seen a 200 gal for only $250 fully stocked with all kinds of stuff, simply because they were moving to Florida and didnt want the hassle of taking it with them just because they could now catch their own stuff.

My water changes are bigger than that...hopefully someone dies it soon. Or else he's got hundreds of dollars of livestock getting the flush.
